Making Digital Stories: 'Crossing Borders'/ August 2013

One of the Convenors of the Feminist e-Knowledges Programme, Selina Mudavanhu facilitated three training sessions with students from  Barnard College & Rutgers University in the US on digital story telling. The students were at the African Gender Institute- University of Cape Town from the 22nd of July 2013 to the 2nd of August 2013 as part of a summer school short course put together by the three institutions. The title of the programme was- 'Exploring the Politics of Gender and Sexualities in Contemporary African Contexts'. All digital story telling sessions happened at the AGI. The first session was an overview of the digital story telling methodology. In addition to the discussion, Selina screened for the students a digital story she made on her trip to Ghana in 2010 titled, The Door of Return. By the end of the session students were asked to go away and collect materials they would use in making their own digital stories on the theme, ‘Crossing Borders.’ The second training session focused on showing the students the technology they would need in producing their own stories. In the last session students worked on their digital stories. Despite limited time, all students managed to make their own stories which were screened at the end of the programme on the 2nd of August 2013. [VIEW IMAGES FROM THE SCREENING]
