Saartjie Baartman Centre - more support needed
After the call to action to help the Saartjie Baartman Centre that was facing imminent closure due to lack of funding, the response from the community has been tremendous. The Centre has been inundated with calls from people who want to donate in cash and in kind. MEC Albert Fritz, Minister in the Department of Social Development also responded to the call to action and promised to give the Centre an additional R250, 000.00.
However, despite the incredible response, the Centre still needs assistance. The resources that are currently available are enough to keep the Centre open for only four months. So, the Saartjie Baartman Centre continues its campaign to publicise its plight and also to raise money outside government coffers.
